    Description

#13617 is a large pair of petrified wood bookends weighing 10.4 pounds. They are 10 3/8” wide, 8 1/4” tall and 1 3/4” thick standing vertically, or 16 3/4” wide, 5 1/8” tall and 1 3/4” thick standing horizontally. They are predominantly black and gray with varying shades of rust and chocolate around their perimeter and in their fissures. They have a plethora of growth lines, beautiful perfect multicolored bark, many small fissures and natural cavities, some that are filled with blue and gray Chalcedony, some areas appear to have been vermiculated by small worms or termites They were taken from a tree that lived, died and petrified somewhere between the end of the Oligocene epoch (33.9 mybp) and the beginning of the Miocene epoch (23.03mybp) “millions of years before present” near what we now refer to as Sweet Home, Oregon. Their front is polished to a mirror finish and the bottom and sides are felted to protect your bookshelf.
